Outline

The Learning Science Weekly Podcast brings together thought leaders, researchers, creatives, authors, and scientists to chat about the science of learning and how it can be applied in corporate and customer education.

In this week's episode, we had a conversation with Tom McDowall about life long learning. We also delved into learning science principles and how they apply to instructional design practices and workplace learning.

Guest: Tom McDowall

Tom McDowall's current role is Chief Learning Geek at Evolve Learning Design. Their mission is to work with businesses and educators to create learning content that works in the real world. It doesn’t sound overly snazzy, but there’s a reason so many people hate eLearning, so that’s what they're trying to fix.

He works mostly with corporate/business clients on anything from new systems implementation to soft skills but also supports the development of in-house talent. This last year Tom started working with a number of schools and colleges in the UK around how they can create effective learning experiences for their students during the string of UK lockdowns.

Here's a book that Tom recommends:

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain
